PLANNING YOUR PARTY, WEDDING OR EVENT AMIDST COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS? YOU’LL STILL FIND THE BEST ADELAIDE FUNCTION ROOMS HERE!
IMPORTANT ADELAIDE FUNCTION VENUE UPDATE 5th August 2020
New restrictions for South Australian function venues have been introduced as of 29th July. Although the seated while drinking and eating rule makes traditional cocktail style parties impossible. If you want to gather with a group of your friends, family or colleagues to celebrate a special occasion, booking into an Adelaide venue is still the best option. At home gatherings have been restricted to a maximum of 10 guests. But there is currently no maximum for gathering at a venue. Except in the case of weddings and funerals. See below.
Current restrictions now include:
– Specifically for weddings and funerals (including wakes), there is a maximum limit of 100 people. This limit doesn’t currently apply to other types of functions such as birthdays or corporate events. Only room density requirements would apply in this case.
– Density requirements of 1 person per 2 square meters still applies, with no cap on the number of people per room.
– Guests must be seated when consuming food and beverage at a restaurant/cafe/bar/hotel etc.
– Guests can purchase a drink or food from the bar, but must return to their seat before consuming food or drink.
– Unless the venue has an approved Covid Management plan, drinking and dancing is not allowed. This means that if alcohol is served at a function, guests wont be able to dance (even if at the time they are not holding a drink).
Of course standing cocktail style functions are now not allowed. But some customers may prefer to cater with cocktail style finger food rather than a full meal. There are strict rules regarding the service of cocktail style finger food. Here’s what the FAQ Government doc (Step-3 05.08.2020) says:
Can I open the buffet bar / salad bar?
No. Communal food service areas are not permitted to be opened, including buffet and salad bars. This includes both self-service and/or staff serving food.
Can I serve share plates (e.g. tapas, pizza, bread) at tables?
You can serve share plates to a table if it is to be shared amongst people who are seated as part of the same group.
Can I serve platters/boards?
As above, you can serve shared platters/boards to a table if it is to be shared amongst people who are seated as part of the same group. For example, you cannot have a platter available for all guests attending an event, but you can have a platter available for people seated at a table together that are part of the same group.
Can I hold a cocktail function?
No, this is considered similar to providing communal food from a service area, however cocktail style food can be served to a table if it is to be shared amongst people who are seated as part of the same group.
(It can also be served to the table individually plated)
Are the rules different for private functions?
No, the above rules apply for private functions at licensed premises or other public venues (e.g. weddings, funerals, birthdays, other ceremonies).
If you are making your enquiry to a function venue via Event Scene, you might find that the venue response time is still a little slower than normal as some venues have only re-opened part time. Please be patient.
Thank you for your continued support during this time for my business Event Scene and the Adelaide restaurants and function venues I work with!
In a world of websites, it’s great to know you are on one that’s owned and managed entirely in Adelaide. I started Event Scene in 2010 (hang on! where did that decade just go???), and the website first launched in 2012. My background is in hospitality and venue management. So I’ve drawn on many years of experience, and literally thousands of functions coordinated and managed, to create a site that helps connect you to the leading function venues and event suppliers in Adelaide. The possibilities are endless for different function rooms in Adelaide for all types of events: special birthday party venues in Adelaide, cocktail party venues, formal private dining rooms, conference venues, meeting room hire, and of course unique wedding venues in Adelaide!
Happy event planning!
